The Instagram strategy that will make you successful in 2019

Updated: Aug 9, 2019

Instagram has long been the player of social networks. There are many reasons for this: Facebook has become too boring for many users, and Instagram still has some of the appeals of being new. There is a lot going on on Instagram, and the chances of becoming successful with your account have rarely been as good as they are today.

Of course, this does not work without a sensible and well thought out strategy. That's why I explain the Instagram marketing strategies to you in this article, which strategy really leads to success on Instagram - and how you can profit permanently from this strategy ...

Facebook's plan with Instagram

Let's be honest: it was clever of Facebook to buy Instagram in 2012 for $ 1 billion. But I remember well that the reactions were at best mixed at the time. Many did not really understand that, especially because Facebook and Instagram did not really have something in common.

Of course, today it is clear that Mark Zuckerberg had a plan back then. Because even if Facebook may have fallen in the favour of users, Facebook as a group with Instagram now has the ultimate wild card. Incidentally, the same applies to WhatsApp.

Facebook and Instagram have only since 2016 a common ground - and that's the algorithm. At that time, the system was switched to Instagram, before the newsfeed there was more like Twitter. Facebook, of course, knew its own algorithm of course and so far, it was only logical to introduce a similar algorithm on Instagram.

Final breakthrough thanks to the new algorithm

The Instagram algorithm sorts the newsfeed, that's how we know it from Facebook. Yes, there was a small outcry among the Instagram users, because the newsfeed was no longer basically chronological. This outcry was understandable because the new algorithm sorts for popularity - and of course it does.

The word "popularity" is rarely used in this context, but it hits it perfectly. Like the Facebook algorithm, the Instagram algorithm rates which profiles, posts, stories, and live videos are the most interactive. "Engagement" is the magic word. This means that as a publisher you have to get as many users on Instagram as possible to interact with your content as often and as much as possible.

Thematic relevance is extremely important

Otherwise, they would not interact. And because they just interact, Instagram does the only logical thing: It will continue to show your content to those users in the future. This is the key to your success on Instagram. The more engagement you make, the more your content is criticized and commented on, the greater the chance that your content will get much more reach.

This is not the only requirement for a successful account on Instagram, but it is one of the most important. Of course, your account must be well-structured in itself:

  • Your bio has to stage you sensibly and professionally

  • Potential followers must immediately recognize what you are about

  • Capture the interests of your target audience

  • Your content must be coherent and have a common thread

  • Publish preferably useful and helpful content

  • Use the one link in the profile to generate traffic

Ultimately, however, your guarantor of success remains your strategy, which is primarily based on engagement. That's the only way you, as a publisher, will become a successful Instagrammer. And of course, that's associated with work. It would be naïve to think that you just have to produce "good content" and then followers and engagement come on their own.

Your content is only half the battle

It is not very difficult to see through the system. To make sure your Instagram Instagram account is viewed by as many other users as possible, you need to be active and engage with your engagement account. The more you are yourself active on Instagram, the more users will be aware of you.

That's the mainspring of the algorithm and you have to orient yourself. A simple example: In order to be "seen" a lot on Instagram, you have to take action yourself. The easiest way is to pick out successful accounts from your niche and constantly check if there are new posts, stories or live videos.

Each content must then be liked and commented by you. This is the first big hurdle for many publishers because it means a lot of work. You have to stay on the ball and see when new content is released, then you have to interact with these contents meaningful and you must, of course, follow these accounts.

Without commitment, you will not be visible

It costs resources, but engagement is the only way to get really visible on Instagram.

Real comments, on the other hand, work perfectly. The respective publisher realizes that you were really interested in the content of your engagement and that you would like to include the context with your comment (using more than 5 words).

If you want to take a short cut, then you can identify the important hashtags from your niche and search Instagram for content about those hashtags in your language.

Whenever you find new content, you like and comment on it meaningfully:

  • Write a comment that takes up the content of the post

  • Do not miss your comment

  • Be nice and polite, use personal addresses

  • Ask questions in your comment

  • Praise the post or the account

  • Avoid hints on your own account

Just this approach will bring you the desired success over time and depending on the niche and quality of your content.

Conclusion

Instagram is the best player of the social networks and already has more than 1 billion active users worldwide, almost half as many as on Facebook. Instagram is definitely necessary for your social media marketing mix.

And since the algorithm works in principle as the algorithm of Facebook since 2016, you have a good chance to be noticed with your content and to build a lively and active community on Instagram. This is also important, because in the medium to long term, Instagram will continue to grow and thus more influential. As long as you stick to the "massive engagement strategy," your Instagram marketing is definitely under a good star.
